The ABA plays an essential role in advocating for the interests of our membership to government and to the book industry and promoting the role that bookshops play in the community.

We are involved in talking to government about issues such as GST on offshore purchases and the retention of parallel importation rules. While supporting our members on these important issues, we recognise the need for reform and improvement in the supply chain and access to accurate data, and are actively engaged with our publisher and distributor colleagues about ways to improve in these areas.

The ABA has an active partnership with the Indigenous Literary Foundation and The Australia Reading Hour, and we work collaboratively with the associations representing publishers, authors and libraries on cross-sector marketing campaigns.
